Katarina’s Bio

  • At the 2023 Bell Canadian Swimming Trials in Toronto, Roxon earned multi-class bronze in the women’s 100-m breaststroke. Her performance qualified her for the 2023 World Para Swimming Championships team in Manchester, England.
  • At the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, Roxon was a member of the women’s 4×100-m freestyle relay (34 points) that captured bronze. Roxon finished fourth in the 100-m breaststroke SB8, 10th in the 200-m individual medley SM9 and 17th in the 100-m freestyle S9. Roxon also swam breaststroke in the women’s 4×100-m medley team that was disqualified in the final.
  • At the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games – her third – Roxon brought home her first Paralympic medal, a gold in the 100-m breaststroke in Canadian record time.
  • She also made the finals in the 200-m individual medley where she finished in 7th and Roxon also swam in the 400-m freestyle (11th), 100-m freestyle (14th) and 100-m butterfly (16th).
  • She contributed to 5th-place finishes in the 4×100-m medley relay and 34pts 4×100-m freestyle relay, both in Canadian record time.
  • At the 2018 Pan Pacific Para Swimming Championships, Roxon won gold in the 100-m breaststroke SB8, silver in the 200-m individual medley SM9 and was a member of the 4×100 freestyle relay that brought home bronze.
  • At the London 2019 World Para Swimming Championships, Roxon achieved her best result in her fifth career appearance at worlds, a silver medal in the 100-m breaststroke SB8, and also claimed bronze in the 4×100-m freestyle relay 34 points. She also reached the final in the 200-m individual medley SM9 (7th), placed 10th in the 100-m freestyle S9, and helped the 4×100-m medley relay 34 points to a fourth-place finish. Thanks to her performance in the 100-m breaststroke, she was nominated to the Canadian Paralympic Committee to represent the country at Tokyo 2020.
  • At her sixth world championships in Madeira, Roxon earned bronze in the 100-m breaststroke SB8. Individually, Roxon placed 6th in both the 200-m individual medley SM9 and the 50-m freestyle S9, where she broke the Canadian record. She also placed 8th in the 100-m freestyle S9 and 9th in the 100-m backstroke S9. Roxon was a member of the mixed 4×100-m medley 34 points relay that placed 8th and broke the Canadian record.
  • Roxon finished 6th in the 200-m individual medley SM9 and 7th in the 100-m freestyle S9 at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

  • At the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, Roxon finished sixth in the S9 100-m freestyle and SB9 100-m breaststroke. Roxon also placed eighth in the SM10 200-m individual medley.
  • Roxon captured silver in the 100-m breaststroke multi-class and earned bronze in the 100-m freestyle multi-class at the 2022 Bell Canadian Swimming Trials. Her performances qualified her for the 2022 World Para Swimming Championships and Commonwealth Games.
  • At the 2019 Canadian Swimming Trials in Toronto, Roxon picked up multi-class silver medals in the 100-m freestyle and 200-m individual medley.
  • Roxon won six medals at the 2015 Parapan Am Games Toronto: Gold in the 100-m breaststroke, silver in the 50-m freestyle, 400-m freestyle and 200-m IM, and bronze in the 100-m backstroke and 100-m freestyle.
  • She won bronze and set a Canadian record in the SB8 100-m breaststroke at the 2015 IPC Swimming World Championships.
  • Roxon successfully defended her 100-m breaststroke title at the 2014 Pan Pacific Para-swimming Championships in Pasadena, Calif. She also won a silver in the 200-m individual medley.
  • At the 2013 IPC Swimming World Championships Montreal, Roxon helped Canada to silver in the women’s 4×100-m freestyle relay. Roxon placed fourth in the 100-m breaststroke with a Canadian record.
  • Born with her left arm missing below her elbow, she got involved in swimming at age five because her parents thought that swimming was an essential skill to learn.
  • She has competed in numerous other international meets, including 4 world championships, the 2007 Parapan Am Games, 2010, 2014 and 2018 Commonwealth Games and 2011, 2014 and 2018 Para Pan Pacs.
