GREENSBORO, North Carolina – Kelsey Wog and Erika Seltenreich-Hodgson captured silver and bronze in the 200-metre individual medley at U.S. Nationals at the Greensboro Aquatic Centre in North Carolina.

Wog, who trains with the University of Manitoba, finished in 2 minutes, 11.69 seconds, just under a second behind American Madisyn Cox.

“I’m happy with that race, I was not expected that at all,” said the 20-year-old. “I’ve been really working on getting out there and racing. I’ve been able to push myself more easily and get into the race.”

Wog, a breaststroke specialist, will now turn her attention to the 100 and 200-m breaststroke events.

“I’m looking forward to racing the fast girls here in the breaststroke. It’s always fun to race fast people. I like to keep the 200 I.M. in there, keep my options open and swim as many events as I can.”

Seltenreich-Hodgson of the High Performance Centre – Vancouver was third in 2:14.24.

“The race itself didn’t really align with where I was expecting to be at this point in the season, but it was great to get a long course race in,” said Seltenreich-Hodgson, 23. “It’s always nice to get on the podium, but I felt like the race could have gone a little differently.”

“I think my second half of the race could use some work. It’s nice having a reference point at this time of year to know where I need to focus for the next five months.”

Earlier in the evening, Cameron Kidd of the Toronto Swim Club finished fifth in the 50-m freestyle in 23.11. Markus Thormeyer of HPC – Vancouver won the B-final to secure ninth in 22.76.

Tristan Cote of Mississauga, Ont., finished seventh in the 400-m freestyle in 3:58.33. HPC – Vancouver’s Carson Olafson and Jeremy Bagshaw of HPC – Victoria touched in ninth and eleventh.

In the men’s 200-m individual medley, Cole Pratt of Cascade Swim Club won the B-final to finish ninth in 2:02.79. Cote, swimming his second event of the night finished twelfth.

U.S. Nationals run until Saturday, and full results are available here.
