HOORN, The Netherlands – Canada completed the FINA World Junior Open Water Swimming Championships with a 15th place finish in the 19 and under five kilometre relay on Monday.

Germany won the gold medal in 56 minutes and 06.2 seconds, Italy was second in 56:07.4 and France third in 56:19.8.  Each team was comprised of four swimmers (two men and two women)  who each swam a 1.25 kilometre lap.

Canada with Connor Walker of Toronto, Vincent Laperie of Montreal, Lauren Teghtsoonian of Winnipeg and Victoria Mock of Victoria clocked 59:31.0.

“All swimmers swam as well as they could,” said Canada’s coach Michel Bérubé. ‘’They were honest in their preparation and effort. I strongly believe Canada will progress in the next few years. Five swimmers will be swimming at the 10km World Cup in Lac St-Jean later this month. I am sure they will carry what they have learned from this experience.’’

Teghtsoonian posted Canada’s best individual result this week finishing 16th in the women’s 18-19 10 kilometre on Sunday.
